The primary task in life

July 15, 2017

Your primary task is not to seek salvation through creating a better world, but to awaken out of identification with form.

— Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now

Consciousness is the Universe looking at itself

March 4, 2017

The Universe is experiencing itself, for a brief moment, as a human being. It’s also experiencing itself, for a brief moment, as plants and animals. The Universe chooses, through you, to be conscious.

Feel the tingling energy in every part of your body and become the sun

September 4, 2016

I am often 100% absorbed in my thoughts. I am unaware of the rest of my body, and unaware of the environment around me. That’s not good. Recently I have been learning, from Eckhart Tolle, to spread attention to my body. I pay attention to my hands; I notice a tingling. I recognize that tingling as energy. Then I pay attention to my feet; I notice the tingling energy there as well. I continue, paying attention to other parts of my body, noticing the tingling energy.

I think that I now understand this picture:

I think the picture indicates that this person has succeeded in giving full attention to every part of his body, noticing all the tingling energy. When that happens, it must feel like one has become the sun.

Fleeting life or immortality

August 2, 2016

I wish to live forever. Ray Kurtzweil (and others) say that with the rapid advances in medicine and technology, we will be able to live a very long time. (See my last blog)

I wish to be spiritually aware. Eckert Tolle talks beautifully about life as a series of changing forms. He says that our life is similar to a movie – a movie that relentlessly marches forward … until the end. The goal should be to work on realizing one’s true self, not pursuing endless forms.

My two wishes seem at odds with each other. One wish involves chasing immortality. The other wish accepts mortality and involves chasing the inner self.

Perhaps the two wishes are not as mutually exclusive as they seem at the moment. I welcome your thoughts.
